Ledger was pretty nervous about the whole thing, asking what it was going to be like. Never having had braces, I wasn't much help in calming his fears. Fortunately Diana had braces growing up so she could talk him through it, letting him know what to expect. Though it didn't erase the nervousness, it did make him feel more comfortable with it. We brought him him to get them put on and it was quite effortless. The nurses got him all ready then the specialist came in and within about 15 minutes they were on! He had a hard time talking at first, worried that these things were going to cut his cheeks or lips. By the time we got to the car and he had looked at himself in the mirror, he decided that he liked them and thought it made him look like a big kid!
Braces
Last time Ledger was at the dentist they suggested that we think about getting him braces. I was a little surprised, he only just turned 9. That seems really young for braces. Growing up I remember classmates started getting braces in 6th or 7th grade, he's only in 3rd! The dentist said that what they've found is that the younger they get them the easier it is to move the teeth around in the mouth- so he would have them younger, but then get them off quicker! Diana and I talked about it and took a look at the cost. I was really surprised with how inexpensive braces are! I remember when I was younger that adults would always complain that braces costed 'an arm and a leg'! For all the work they have to do on them and the maintenance and visits required, the price actually seemed pretty good. Alright, I guess our 9 year old is getting braces!
